Finally Milford Sound!

We had no faith in the road opening any time soon, but decided to drive to the closure and check out all the stops on the way. 
we walked to the beautiful Lake Marian

heard the explosions from the avalanche control 

and checked out the waiting line

no success on Wednesday either.

we stayed on a DOC campsite close to the road closure to wait out the opening in the morning.
 

For once I had not set an alarm and we woke quite late. Decided to just drive up and have breakfast while waiting in line, but the road had just opened! 
 

we upgraded to drysuit as it was really cold and that was the best choice!

beautiful underwater world!!

The sound itself was also amazing and unbelievably beautiful.

Time to leave Fiordland and go to the east!
