Travels and rain

13 november 2019 - Franz Josef Glacier, Nieuw-Zeeland

We are as far south as Franz Josef now. It took us only 2 days with one stop for the night. The first day driving was extremely long because of a misguiding in Google (unsealed road) and a road block so we had to go back a long way to go around the closed road. We left at 8:00 in the morning and in the end arrived at Punakaiki around 17:30. We did have some stops along the way but none too long.

In Punakaiki we stayed at a very nice beach holiday park and heard the big waves crash all night. The next morning we went caving and explored the Pancake rocks:

We also tried to work at the Pancake cafe, but no wifi or phone reception, so we just had a nice coffee

On the drive down to Franz Josef it started to rain.. and it is still raining and will never end. We hope to do the helicopter hike to the Glacier here on Friday (tomorrow already has been cancelled because of the weather) so fingers crossed this will happen!
